Be sure to choose a planting spot with plenty of room as they can grow up to 15 feet tall at mature size. That being said, it's easy to keep them pruned at a more manageable size for easy berry picking. Apply a slow release fertilizer in early spring to boost growth during the spring and summer growing season. These summer bearing plants will flower in spring and fruit with mature into sweet berries in june and july. Different than northern highbush or lowbush varieties, the Rabbiteye is prized for being heat and drought tolerant and loves the warmth of the South. Get edible blueberries in the first year of planting and by year 2 or 3 you will be picking a bushel of berries to enjoy. They are cold hardy down to 0 F.
