It’s a good choice as a containerized plant as it is so very cold hardy that being above ground will not be of concern in most places that you will not need to bring it inside. It has attractive green canes with large evergreen foliage. It has the ability to provide a very dense canopy (if this is your desire, otherwise you can thin the canopy) and provides excellent shading. Effective uses are privacy screening, hedging, groves, wind breaks and a display specimen. Hardy from zone 5 and higher and down here in Florida, it readily accepts full sun and high humidity. As stated earlier, the plant is hardy down to -15 degrees. It will die back at -25 degrees and return the next spring with growing very quickly to reestablish in record time.
